Research Proposal
In my last course I began my research proposal on educations impacts on teachers mental health. This proposal for research evolved greatly during the pandemic. The work put into this proposal as well as concepts developed through exploration align with the ISTE Coach 2 and 5 standards. The research proposal aligns with Coach 2 – connected learner by bridging the challenges of teachers with the impact technology has within the classroom. As a reflective learner it was imperative that I began exploring research on a topic that is very important to not only myself but to the welfare of others and the education system. While my proposed sample contained teachers within a single school building, this Title I school follows the same guidelines as Title I schools within the state and could open doors for greater correlations and research. This study was seeking ways to impact and improve our coaching and teaching practices to in return prevent teacher burnout.
While this is a large and complex issue to face, learning more about how technology has aided teacher or caused greater conflict is only a jumping off point. By completing this introductory work, I also fulfilled Coach 5 standard – Professional Learning Facilitator. This paper evaluated the impact of professional learning and preparedness for both tenured and non tenured teachers and how adjustments to facilitations can impact educators. Frequently new trainings are required to help teachers implement new practices, these trainings come at the cost of teachers planning or personal time. This research would help identify the commonalities between teacher demands and stressors and work to create professional learning that mirrored their needs.
Due to this proposal, I gained a greater insight and understanding for research and research design. These principles were carried with me as I work with other journals and research to be critical of how the study and identify any underlying assumptions and its impact. (ISTE Coach 7c.) From conception of the proposed topic to the final draft, I found myself battling with the components and any assumptions that I was making to their outcomes. This work deepened my appreciation for research as well as opened my eyes to the many factors that go into putting research into action.
