Technology Liaison
For the past two years I have served as the tech liaison for my school building. While it is not a written artifact, the position and its demands supply an avenue for my greatest impact on learners and leaders. This daily activity reaches coach standards 1, 3, and 5. As a tech liaison in the covid-19 pandemic our greatest challenge was ensuring the technology being used was equitable for all learners (ISTE coach 1b). While the technology office did the work to ship devices to students, it was up to me and my partner to ensure that all students had working wifi in addition to assisting students and families with their log in credentials and necessary software updates. Problem solving, and teaching fellow educators how to trouble shoot remotely was key to our success. While many teachers can create a stellar PowerPoint for means of instruction, they were not suited to help parents navigate new technology that they themselves have never touched before. Helping provide guidance through trainings, manuals, and one on one trainings allowed for educator to better assist and adapt to the technology we were provided (ISTE coach d, ISTE coach e).
While we encountered many challenges this year in the use of technology in the classroom it was imperative that ALL students have access to learning, and that all teachers could provide that support to their students and families. This additional undertaking aligns with standard 3 for the work to keep professional relationships communicative in needs and updates. This partnership with teachers supplied ample space to explore new teaching technologies and strategies (ISTE coach 3a) while supporting and coaching on the effective use of technology both for direct instruction and per device capabilities (ISTE coach 3d). This position displays my leadership to work effectively with administration, staff, teachers, and students.
Finally Coach standard 5 is fulfilled through my liaisonship by supplying professional learning for staff on how to implement new digital tools and access digital content. This standard can also be viewed in the GoGuardian artifact as well, but by working as a bridge between the office of technology and all adults, students, and families in our building my partner and I were able to create and supply informative guides and lessons on our instructional technology and tools (ISTE coach 5a). As a result of this artifact in action, my school building has over 400 computers working in a hybrid format to meet the needs of all learners.
